NEF (Nikon Electronic Format) is a RAW image file type used by Nikon digital cameras that provide maximum image quality. The RAW image i.e. NEF image files are saved in the memory card with .nef file extension and they are stored in a form such that they can be easily converted back to generic image file types using relevant software. Generally, RAW image files contain camera setting information markers and all the data obtained by sensor data. JPEG is a generic file format supported by Nikon digital cameras. But, the main disadvantage of memory cards is that they are more susceptible to logical failures that result in data loss. You can use Nikon Canon photo recovery software to retrieve erased photos from Nikon DSLR camera.

Generally, when the JPEG or RAW image is generated, different settings are applied to the image by the camera. But, when you save the JPEG image file, all the unwanted data is discarded from that file to reduce the size of the image file. Whereas, the unwanted data is saved when you save the RAW image file in order to use it more widely while post-processing that image. RAW image files can also be compressed but, the data is not lost while compressing the RAW image file. Nikon uses flash memory cards to store these JPEG and NEF photos. Memory cards can retain these photos even when the power is turned off. Some memory cards such as SD cards use the protective switch to protect data against accidental deletion or data loss. Even though, these cards are not able to protect data against logical failures.

What causes NEF file deletion?

File System Corruption: Memory cards that are used in digital cameras generally support the FAT32 file system. The file system is a logical structure that manages and arranges the files in an appropriate way. Additionally, it stores the address of each and every image file stored on it. File system corruption mainly occurs due to viruses, improper system shutdown, power surges, and abrupt removal of memory card from the computer etc. In such cases, you may encounter error messages that refuse to open the image files resulting in loss of photos along with other files.

Accidentally formatting the memory card: In order to assign logical structure to the memory card, memory card needs to be formatted with a specific file system. Sometimes, formatting is also necessary, when you want to remove viruses that are not able to remove by antivirus programs. But, formatting the memory card that already contain a large number of photos and other data, deletes all these data then creates a new file system for storing new files. Therefore, accidentally formatting the memory card that contains photos and other files may results in loss of files. However, you can emploty this award winning software to get back photos from Canon Eos 7d Mark Ii camera after mistakenly clicking on "Format All" option with utmost ease.

Antivirus scanning results in loss of photos: When you connect any removable storage media such as memory card to your computer that has antivirus program, first it will check for viruses. Some antivirus programs directly delete the entire folder that contains viruses after scanning the memory card. If that folder contains your memorable snaps then you may lose those photos resulting in loss of photos
